The inspiration is all things Valentine’s Day! It’s my favorite holiday! I hope you enjoy these. I’ve used 6 different yarns for these, and they are all readily available.

"This was a fun quick make, very easy to do. I used the recommended hook size and different scrap yarns to resemble conversation hearts, one heart has love embroidered on it. My embroidery onto crochet skills is not my best. I did however modified the join by doing a jaygo, which turned out great. I also made an extended puff stitch for the heart center to make the 2 curved sides seem more separate. I think I took longer to figure out the jaygo than making all 12 hearts combined." ~ by airamaria

+ Special Stitch

Stacked Treble Crochet – ultimately, watching the video will help you learn this stitch the best. However, here is a step by step guide to creating the stacked treble crochet. To get a visual of what a stacked treble crochet looks like, refer to Step 2 below.

  1. Create a single crochet in magic circle.
  2. Insert hook in left vertical bar of the single crochet V.
  3. Yarn over, draw up a loop.
  4. Yarn over, and compete your single crochet by drawing through both loops on hook.
  5. Repeat steps 2 – 4 one more time to complete 1 stacked treble crochet.

+ Pattern

Make 12 hearts for the scarf. Make 6 hearts for the boot cuffs. Instructions below for the heart pattern. The heart pattern is the same for both styles, only the yarn changes.

To start:

Make a magic ring, and a stacked treble crochet – counts as 1st treble.

Heart Motif Pattern:

Scarf: (6.5mm Hook) Make 12-14 using Yarn Bee Yarn with red (C1) as MC and ivory (C2) as border.

Boot Cuff: (5mm Hook) Make 6 using I love this Cotton in Monkey Red (C1) with Monkey Brown (C2) as the border.

Round 1 (C1): (tr 2, dc 4, tr, dc 4, tr 3) into magic ring. Tug the magic ring closed leaving a small gap.  ch 2, sl st into center of magic ring. Tighten the magic ring – 15 sts.

Note: continue working in the round, mark 1st st of each round.

Round 2 (C1)sc in 2nd st of stacked treble, 2 hdc in next st, 3 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in each of next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st, (hdc, dc, hdc) in next st, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in each of next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st, 3 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, sc in one loop of next ch (of ch-2), skip last ch, join with sl st into next sl st – 29 sts.

Note: continue working in the round, mark 1st st of rnd.

Round 3 (C1)sc in next 2 sts, *sc in next st, sc 2 in next st* – *repeat 3 times*, sc 6, sc 3 in next st, sc 6, (sc 2 in next st, sc in next st) three times, sc in next 2 sts, join in sl st – 37 sts.

Create the last round using your MC or switch a complimentary color for fun!

Round 4 (C2)ch 1, hdc (blo) in next 3 sts, *2 hdc in next st, repeat from * 3 more times, hdc in each of next 11 sts, (hdc, dc, hdc) in next st, hdc in each of next 11 sts, *2 hdc in next st, repeat from * 3 more times, hdc in each of next 3 sts, join with sl st – 47 sts.

Tie off, cut, pull magic ring tight, weave in all tails.

+ Joining the hearts for the Scarf:

Use an extra extra long piece of border color.  Separate the hearts into two columns – even – for mine I used 6 hearts in each column.  Place RS down – RS is the side facing you was you worked the hearts, WS is the back.  Weave together using a whip stitch starting at the bottom and working up through the third loops of the hdc, and ease through border to minimize weaving in tails like picture below.

When you have two columns of six hearts each, whip stitch them together like below

Crochet Heart Scarf Pattern-07

Boot Cuff Base: (5.5mm Hook) Make 2.

Note:  Work with 2 pieces of Burnt Sienna yarn.  ch 2 does not count as a st.

Foundation chain:  fdhdc 36 – should measure about 14 ½” (37cm).

Row 1:  Ch 2, hdc (3rd loop) entire row. (36)

Rows 2 – 5:  Repeat Row 1 (36)

Noteyou can increase the width if you’d like.  My pattern tester suggested a thicker cuff, so you can add 2 or 3 more rows to add width.  This will change the way you create the button hold piece – but I added guidelines on how to do that in the button hole section below.

Attaching hearts to cuff: Fasten 3 hearts (I used locking stitch markers), evenly spaced beginning at the right side of the cuff (see photo).

You should have about an inch of space on the left side – this is where you place your buttons.  Gently sew on hearts using the Monkey Red yarn, along the inside of the border.  Sew on buttons using Burnt Sienna yarn.

Buttonhole end piece:   Attach yarn (2 strands of Burnt Sienna) in the right corner (see photo).

The instructions below are for the width of 5 rows – if you make your cuff thicker by adding rows, make sure your button holes match up with the region of your buttons on the other end.  To make a button hole, simply ch 2, and sk 2 then resume your normal hdc’s throughout the rest of the row.

Row 1Ch 1, hdc in same space, hdc 8 across, spaced evenly.

Row 2Ch 1, turn, hdc in same space, ch 2, sk 2, hdc 2, ch 2, sk 2, hdc 1. (8)

Row 3:  Ch 1, turn, hdc in same space, hdc 2 in ch sp, hdc 2, hdc 2 in ch sp, hdc 1.  Tie off and weave in tail.  (8)
