Ara Poncho | Free Beginner One Skein Wonder Crochet Pattern | Sizes XS/Teen, S/M, L/XL

This is exciting! My FIRST poncho design :). The Ara Poncho Crochet Pattern is a very very very beginner friendly pattern that I wanted to create as a simple and delicate accent to wear over tank tops in the fall or late summer. It’s a ONE SKEIN (CAKE) WONDER!

It’s cool enough to wear over a tank, and you can also dress it up for a cool night, or even as a work cover to keep you warm at your desk.

Ara Poncho Crochet Pattern Inspiration

Ara is the name of a Southern constellation, and I just loved the name. The story behind this constellation is super cool. :D.

Ara is a small constellation located in the southern sky. Its name means “the altar” in Latin. The constellation represents the altar used by Zeus and other Greek gods to swear a vow of allegiance before they went to war against Cronus and the Titans. In another Greek myth, Ara represents the altar of King Lycaon of Arcadia.

The story of the Ara constellation made me laugh a bit, because despite its subtle and gentle name, it’s meaning is a strong one. But, we are just crocheting here, no swearing of vows or wars lol.

Recently, I finished up a design called the Phoenix Square (free pattern) for the Patchwork Mystery CAL, also named after a southern constellation. If you like CAL’s, go check out the Facebook Group.

There are 12 squares, and all of them have tutorial videos! They also work up pretty fast. The group is filled with a host of wonderful makers and designers. You’ll have a great time, and as far as I know, the patterns will be free on the blog’s forever.

If you would like the PDF version of this pattern, it is available on my website (create an account and log in to access your PDF’s at any time), or you can add it to your Etsy & Ravelry libraries below:
