Three Color Square | Beginner Crochet Video Tutorial | Stitch Explorers Series

Hi everyone! 👋🏼 Welcome to Stitch Explorers! This week’s stitch is a cute crochet granny square! ☺. I never do granny squares, but this three-color square was calling to me. It’s not a traditional square because it uses treble crochets, and worked a little different than a traditional granny square. However, it’s the cutest crochet granny square ever!

It turned out really beautiful, and I love the colors 😍. Now I think I need to order more of the Scheepjes in these colors so I can make something pretty with these squares. What do you think? A pillow? Scarf? Blanket?

I’m excited to have this square featured in a wonderful make-a-long hosted by Knitting with Chopsticks. The #CozyFallMAL – this make-along for charity includes a ton (20 to be exact!) of beautiful crochet and knit squares to create cozy fall blankets! Everyday there will be a new free crochet & knit square pattern released! The Three Color Square is live and ready for you now!(2

For the crochet video tutorial I used Scheepjes Stone-Washed DK in the following colors:

Color A: 818 – Lilac Quartz

Color B: 801 – Moon Stone

Color C: 811 – Deep Amethyst

8″ x 8″ square Crochet Charity MAL (scroll down for version 2 with 2 colors):

I also created a larger square using a bulky yarn by Lion Bran called Rewind, especially for the MAL (make along) with To make a larger square, I used a 6.5 mm hook and Lion Brand’s Rewind yarn in Willow (brown), and Elm (off white) – as pictured below.

or use any bulkly yarn and 6.5 mm hook or larger to obtain guage.

What can I make with the Three Color Square?

This square is actually larger than it looks. I used a 3 weight yarn with a 4mm hook, and it measure almost 5.5 ” (13.97 cm). Which is fairly large! So I imagine using a worsted weight yarn or chunky yarn would produce a very large square and so easy to work up a blanket.

Blankets, scarves, cowls, pillow covers, and just about anything you can think of!
