Starlight Lace Crochet Christmas Ornament| Free Crochet Pattern

The starlight crochet Lace Crochet Christmas Ornament was born out of a few things. I’ve always wanted to learn to crochet around a glass ornament AND a fellow crocheter asked me to create a Christmas ornament design.

In addition, I have a crazy desire to design some fun ones too! 🤣. The first design for my ornament series is classic, soft, and icy.

I wanted a simply classic and subtle design that focused on the design and not so much color.

I used Scheepjes Merino Soft for this design with a *very* small hook. Smaller than I am used to using but it was a fun challenge for me.

I usually purchase my Scheepjes yarn from Wool Warehouse, but you can find it online in some American based online shops too 😀

Let’s Get Down to the Starlight Christmas Ornament

Crochet Techniques You Will Master

  • Working with a smaller hook and thinner yarn
  • Treble Crochet
  • Working in a circle
  • Slip stitching
  • Working around an ornament (this will be clearer in the video post tomorrow)

Are you a visual learner?

I will be uploading a tutorial video for this in another post this week (I lost my light today 😢)

A little bit about the yarn…

I used a very small amount of Scheepjes Merino Soft. This is a nice yarn to use because although it is a 3 weight yarn, it is very stretchy and works well with smaller hooks too. Any 3 weight yarn with 11 WPI will work.

+  Skill Level

Intermediate (because of the construction)

+  Gauge

19 stitches x 23 rows to 10cm using 4 mm hook – gauge is not crucial for this pattern.

+  Materials

Suggested Yarn:

Scheepjes Merino Soft, Malevich (600), DK #3 yarn (50% Merino Wool, 25% Acrylic, 25% Micro fiber, 114 yds/ 105 m per 1.76 oz/50 g skein)

Yarn Substitutions:

Any 3-weight yarn with similar wraps per inch (WPI). In the video tutorial I am using Premier Cotton.

  • Glass ornaments: I purchased mine from Target (not an affiliate link) Dimensions of Ornaments: 80 mm (H) x 65 mm (W) x 65 mm (D)

  1. I went to the link for the free download, however when I got there to download it, there’s a $3.99 charge. Why do you say free download, when there is $3.99 fee to download it????
