A little bit about the yarns…

For the pattern in the sample photos, I crocheted these using Lion Brand Heartland Yarn in Tweed. This yarn is versatile, simple to work with, and comes in a nice assortment of new trendy yarn colors, you can find the new look on Lion Brand’s website or in the links below.

The white version is crocheted with Yarn Bee Denim in Color. I mention this below, but this yarn has been discontinued, unfortunately. Below I mention some great yarn subs.

I’m sad to report that my favorite yarn is discontinued. I hate when this happens, but thankful I purchased quite a few skeins before they did it 😥. I used Yarn Bee Denim in Color for the sample. I scoured the internet for some worthy subs and found a few that will work great!

They have a similar fiber content, yardage, and look to them. Here they are: Berroco Vibe and Comfy Cotton Blend by Lion Brand.

Yardage Needed: 1 Skein

Yarn Substitutions: Berroco Vibe and Comfy Cotton Blend by Lion Brand or any 4 weight yarn with similar WPI.

Tabby Star Easy Crochet Mittens Video Tutorial

I created a full VIDEO and PICTURE tutorial that will come in handy for assembling these mittens. I describe it below, but pictures are worth 1000 words. Check out this post How to Crochet Mittens. Scroll down to the bottom of the post for full assembly, along with the full video tutorial including this pattern.

You can create these in a fingerless glove version too, just by omitting the top half.

Written Assembly:

It can be difficult to describe in words how to attach the mitten top, but here is my best shot!

  • Next, attach the mitten top to the body of the mitten
  • Place the mitten top on top of the mitten with the top of the mitten top facing the bottom of the mitten.
  • Line the bottom of the mitten top up with the top of the thumb hole.
  • Sew along the bottom through the slip stitches, and work through the post of the hdc (in between the rows on the mitten body).
  • Work whip stitch from right to left.
  • If this sounds confusing, please see the video and post called How to Crochet Mittens for a visual reference.
  • Next you sew the button where the loop from the top of the mitten fits nicely around the button.
  • You will need a smaller needle for the button to get through those tiny holes.

Congratulations! You Are Finished!

  2. Thank you for this pattern! I do have one question…How do you close the mitten top and make the loop for the button? those rows seem to be missing from the pattern.thanks again!

    Reply
    • I’ll have to check on that. Maybe something went missing in the pattern. The Top of the mittens are sewing together, and the loop is created by making the loop with the extra tail and sewing in the ends.
