Welcome to Saturday Stitch Explorers! This weeks stitch is the cable stitch, which is a super easy stitch to learn for beginners because it only uses a double crochet & a long half double crochet. The cable stitch also has a 1 row repeat! 1 row! That makes it even better! I created a simple headband pattern using this stitch, so keep an eye out next week for the full written pattern and video for that pattern.
If you sign up for my newsletter or follow the blog, you will get notified immediately when that pattern goes live :).
Complete video tutorial at of the Cable Stitch is at the bottom of post – for all the visual learners out there.

- Pattern worked in back and forth rows.
- Super easy!
- Multiples of 4 + 2.
- For using a chain to start, create multiples of 4 + 3.
- First stitch of each row is made in same as turning chain.
For this tutorial I used Yarn Bee, Denim in Color in Ivory and a 6 mm hook.
Row 1: Fsc multiples of 4 + 2.
Row 2: Ch 2, turn, dc 1 in first st. *skip 1 st, dc 1 in next 3 sts, lhdc 1 in skipped st,* rep *…* across, then dc 1 in last st.
Repeat row 2 until you reach desired height.
To work it with a chain instead of a foundation single crochet:
Chain any multiple of 4 + 3.
Row 1: Sc 1 in 1st ch from hook, sc 1 in ea ch across.
Row 2: Ch 2, turn, dc 1 in first st, *sk 1 st, dc 1 in each of next 3 sts, lhdc 1 in skipped st,* rep *…* across, ending with 1 dc in last st.
Repeat row 2 until you reach your desired height.
Congratulations! You’re finished!

What can I make with the Cable Stitch?
The cable stitch creates a nice thick fabric, but is peppered with tiny holes, which makes it perfect for a scarf, or baby blanket that isn’t too hot. I created a headband with this stitch, because of the thickness, but it also lets a bit of air thought which is nice.
I hope you enjoy this tutorial, and if you have any questions or comments, please leave them below, I would love to talk crochet!
