Whew! My first Graphgan Design! Unicorn Rainbow C2C Written & Graph Pattern :)

Hi friends,

It’s been a minute, but I have been very busy creating.  My WIPS (works in progress) are somewhat out of control and graduate school is taking a lot of my time, but I finally got around to creating a graphgan pattern.  Of course, it has rainbow colors – and a ***Unicorn*** – my two favorite things.  ❤

There are two files.  The first one (85 x 98 sts) is a graph with written C2C instructions and a graph.  The other file is just the graph (100 x 115 sts)

Both of these patterns can be worked in single crochet or Tunisian crochet simple stitch.  Of course that will alter the dimensions of the blanket, but here are some tips on dimensions:

  • Want to increase the size?  Use a larger hook and heavier weight yarn.
  • Want a smaller blanket or a large pillow?  Use a single crochet st or Tunisian crochet st…you can also decrease the weight of the yarn.
  • C2C – measurements for C2C using recommended yarn and G hook (4.00mm) will be about 4′ x 4.5′

I hope you enjoy this pattern!

Please share your finished blankets and tag me please!  I would love to see the finished work! ❤

thank you

Are you looking for a gift for someone?  This finished piece is also available for purchase in my Etsy store – here.

Mandala yarns are very popular this year…so popular that Lion Brand is out-of-stock until January 2018!

Luckily, there are lots of this yarn to be found online, and many stores still have them in stock! For this pattern, I used 1 ball of Mandala® Yarn – Centaur colorway. A quick Google search or trip to the local craft store will help you find it.

Mandala Centaur Graphic Long

Mandala is a sock weight yarn, but here we make it chunky! The colors are beautiful, so I used a method I will teach you that turns a sock weight yarn (3), into a chunky weight yarn (5-6).

Video tutorials to help you work the pattern – the links are clickable from the PDF – please choose to allow it to open the web.

Making it chunky results in an amazing color change, and it opens the door for so many projects and new colors from thin to chunky.

For this pattern, you will learn (if you don’t already know them) the following stitches: half double crochet (hdc), half triple crochet (htr), extended single crochet (exsc), working in back and both loops. Front post double crochet (fpdc), and back post double crochet (bpdc). There are detailed instructions on how to do each.

I hope you enjoy this pattern! Please share pics of your finished piece!

Happy crocheting

I usually buy my Scheepjes yarn from Wool Warehouse, it’s UK, but they ship fast and it’s less expensive than buying U.S. Although, there are some suppliers in the United States as well.

~ Sparkle Motion Ear Warmer ~ Free Crochet Pattern for Beginners

Sparkle Motion Headband Tutorial

This is a simple pattern for beginners!  It’s so easy, and that’s why it’s free!  I love the movie Donnie Darko, and for some reason, when I was making this, it reminded me of the little girl dance troupe… So, it’s amply named, Sparkle Motion.

This is a headband/ear warmer and uses only single crochet (sc) and double crochet (dc) stitches.

Instructions:

First measure your head circumference.  The best way to find your head circumference is to take a flexible measuring tape and wrap it around from your forehead to the base of your neck.

Materials:

  • Yarn: Premier Yarns Isaac Mizrahi – Broadway yarn in Imperial colorway – Glitter, Sparkle Worsted weight (4) – 328 yd, 1 ball. I got mine at Michael’s, but it can be found online as well:  https://www.etsystudio.com/listing/541824291/premier-yarns-isaac-mizrahi-broadway
  • Hook Size: 4 mm hook, G or equivalent to achieve gauge if you use a different yarn. (Here is a link to a conversion chart if your needles are lettered or numbered: Hook Conversion Chart.)
  • Scissors
  • Darning needle to join edges.
  • Measurements: 23” long (before joining), by 3 5/8 or 58.5 cm x 9.25 cm.
  • Gauge: 16 sts and 20 rows = 4” x 4” or 10 x 10 cm.

Directions for gauge:  Using 4 mm hook, ch16, + 1, *sc in 1st ch from hook, and in each ch to end. ch 1, turn. *repeat to create 20 rows total.

Tips: Keep a tight stitch, I usually pull tight after each sc or dc, but it’s preference. If you decide to crochet a little looser, the width will increase.

DIY Crochet Sparkle Motion Headband

Abbreviations:  sc = single crochet  /  dc = double crochet

Instructions:
Ch Row – Chain 88.  (88 chains with specified yarn = appx 23”/58.5 cm.)

R1sc in first st from hook, and in each st to end of row. ch1. turn. (88).
R2dc in each st across entire row. ch 1, turn (88).
R3 – Repeat R1 & R2 until you reach desired width.

I worked approximately 12 rows total. You can make it as thin or wide as you’d like.

Joining together:

Bring the two ends together, and join using your hook, or a needle and yarn. If using your hook, don’t tie off and join ends by inserting hook through both top loops on each end and pull though with a slip stitch. If using a needle, tie off, and sew pieces together in top loops.

You’re finished! See that was easy 😊

Bohemian Head Warmer Graphic Smaller

I’m so happy with how this turned out. I’ve tried it in a few different colors, but for some reason, this color combo is the winner. I was playing around and decided to make an unconventional headband, that has a little flare. Feel free to use whatever colors you wish, I’ve listed the colors I used below, although using a lighter color for what would be the mustard color here will make it pop.
Guess what?
When you purchase the written pattern, it comes with a video tutorial too! Win win!
