We are finally at the end of our crochet along for the Cottagecore Mosaic Blanket! 🎉 That really flew by didn’t it!? 😮 In this post you’ll learn how to create an easy envelope border (tutorial) 🧵 for your finished mosaic blanket. 🌈
Remember, you can use this technique on ANY blanket with colorwork that has a lot of tails or ends you’d like to hide. 😉
Even if you don’t have tails, it still creates a beautiful edging ✨ to create even edges on all kinds of crochet blankets. 👍
Benefits of Using an Envelope Border
The benefits of using an envelope border first and foremost is creating a clean look to your crochet blanket. The second is to hide tails by tucking them into the border.

Linked Double Crochet Style
The envelope border in the featured image is the linked double crochet envelope border. I love linked stitches because it creates a solid piece and really hides those tails.
To do a linked version, in Step 6 – Create a stacked double crochet, then work a linked double crochet stitch around.
How do you do a linked double crochet? Insert your hook into the middle horizontal bar, yo, pull up a loop, insert your hook into the next stitch, yo, pull up a loop, then complete your double crochet as normal. You don’t yarn over first.
Easy Envelope Border Tutorial
Let’s create an amazing envelope border and hide all those pesky tails.
Step 1
Create a slip knot on your hook., then remove your hook.
Step 2
Insert your hook into any corner stitch. Or any stitch in the center of your work.
Step 3
Put your slip knot back on your hook. and gently pull it through the stitch.
Step 4
Insert hook in next stitch, yarn over, and pull through the loop on your hook creating a surface slip stitch.
Step 5
Repeat that across and around the entire blanket.
Join into the first surface slip stitch and tie off.
Step 6
Grab your border color. Here I’m using white. Join it through the BLO of the surface slip stitch and pull through. Ch 1, and work your border stitch (I used hdc)
Step 7
Work your border stitch around the entire blanket, crocheting 3 stitches into BLO of each corner.
Step 8
Repeat Steps 1 – 7 on the flip side of the blanket, working your surface slip stitch just below your slip stitches from the front side.
Step 9
This is what the two sides will look like. Sandwich them together & Find the center stitch of your 3 stitches in the corner. Attach your yarn.
Step 10
Work your border stitch (sc or hdc) in both sides around, tucking in the tails as your work. No need to do 3 sts in the corner on this round.
