Welcome to Saturday Stitch Explorers! This week’s stitch is the Fleur-de-lis (Saints) Stitch. This is a new stitch created by yours truly! This stitch was super fun to create. After I was finished it reminded me of a fleur-de-lis, hence the name :).

BUT….. fleur-de-lis is kind of hard to remember the spelling so let’s call it both the Saints Stitch and Fleur-de-lis Stitch I love creating new stitch patterns, but the one thing I don’t like about it is the math. Whoever thought crocheting would be so filled with math right?

The Fleur-de-lis (Saints) Stitch creates a nice fabric that would be great for blankets or even a nice sweater to wear over a tank top. It’s airy and thick, similar to the Baby Bunny Stitch pictured below.

Fleur-de-lis (Saints) Stitch by Tasha Margette

For this tutorial I used I Love This Cotton in white, with a 4.5 mm hook.

The Fleur-de-lis (Saints) stitch combines basic stitches in a simple repeat to create this beautiful stitch pattern.

fsc – foundation single crochet

create a slip knot.  ch 2, insert hook in 1^st chain.  yo, draw up a loop.  ch 1, yo, draw through both loops on hook.  (2^nd st) insert hook in bottom two loops of ch 1.  yo, draw up a loop, ch 1, yo, draw through both loops (2 fsc created).

ps – pineapple stitch

*yo, insert hook in indicated st. yo, pull up a loop to working level* repeat *…* – 3 times total, then, yo, pull through 6 loops on hook (2 loops left). yo, pull through last 2 loops on hook. (1 pineapple stitch created)

hdc – half double crochet

yo, insert hook in next st. yo, draw up a loop, yo, pull through all 3 loops on hoook.

sc – single crochet

insert hook in next st, yo, pull up a loop. yo, pull through both loops on hook.

sc2tog – single crochet 2 together (a decrease by 1)

*insert hook in next st. yo, draw up a loop* 2 times. yo, pull through all 3 loops on hook.

Pattern works in multiples of 5 + 1, using the foundation single crochet.

For the tutorial I used foundation single crochet (fsc) – the pattern for starting with a chain is below this one.

Row 1: fsc 26.

Row 2:  ch 1, turn.  sc 2, *ch 3, sk 2**, sc 3* – rep *…*, ending rep at **, then sc 2.

Row 3:  ch 1, turn.  hdc 1, ch 1, sk 1, *(ps 1, sc 1, ps 1) in ch 3 sp, ch 1, sk 1, hdc 1 in next**, ch 1, sk 1* – rep *…*, ending rep at **

Row 4:  ch 1, turn.  hdc 1 in 1^st hdc.  *hdc 1 in ch 1 sp, hdc 1 in next ps.  ps 1 in next st, hdc 1 in next ps, hdc 1 in next ch 1 sp, hdc 1 in next hdc*, rep –  *…* to end.

Row 5:  ch 1, turn, sc 1 in ea st across, sc2tog in every 5^th st.

rep rows 2 – 5 until your work is the height you desire.

Working the pattern with a chain.

chain any multiple of 5 + 1 chains, then add 1.

Row 1: starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc 1 in each chain across.

Row 2:  ch 1, turn.  sc 2, *ch 3, sk 2**, sc 3* – rep *…*, ending rep at **, then sc 2.

Row 3:  ch 1, turn.  hdc 1, ch 1, sk 1, *(ps 1, sc 1, ps 1) in ch 3 sp, ch 1, sk 1, hdc 1 in next**, ch 1, sk 1* – rep *…*, ending rep at **

Row 4:  ch 1, turn.  hdc 1 in 1^st hdc.  *hdc 1 in ch 1 sp, hdc 1 in next ps.  ps 1 in next st, hdc 1 in next ps, hdc 1 in next ch 1 sp, hdc 1 in next hdc*, rep –  *…* to end.

Row 5:  ch 1, turn, sc 1 in ea st across, sc2tog in every 5^th st.

rep rows 2 – 5
