Crochet Lacy Heart Granny Square | Perfect for Blankets & Gifts 💝

This sweet little square is bursting with charm and cozy vibes! I designed the Lacy Heart Granny Square as a soft and whimsical twist on the classic granny — because let’s be real, hearts make everything better. 🧶💘

This square actually came to life thanks to one of my amazing YouTube followers 💬 — she asked if I could expand my easy crochet heart pattern into a full square… and you know what? Challenge accepted! I took her idea and ran with it, and I’m so glad I did. It turned into something really special. 💡💕

Each square features a vibrant heart center (hello, stash buster!) framed with a delicate lacy border that adds the perfect touch of texture.

Turn it into a crochet baby blanket, string them into a garland, or mix and match for a scrappy love-bomb of a project. Once you make one, it’s hard to stop! 😍

Made with 100% cotton yarn (but you can totally use whatever you have on hand), this square works up quickly and looks adorable in literally every color. Trust me—I tried them all. 🌈

This pattern is beginner-friendly with a little spice, and I’ll walk you through it every step of the way. So grab your hook, put on your favorite cozy show, and let’s crochet something full of love. 💕

Yarn Subs:  Any yarn will work great for these. You can use anything from sport to super bulky.

LACY HEART GRANNY SQUARE:

Make as many needed for your project.

Note:  I am writing this one a little differently than I normally do because there are very few repeat sections.  I decided creating check marks will be easier to keep track of the stitches.

Round 1:

Using C1, Create a magic circle (my way is super easy to learn!) – or – chain 3, and work your first stitch into the 1st chain, or join the chain and work into the center.

Work the following stitches into the center of the magic ring or circle you created.

  • Str
  • Tr 2
  • Dc 4
  • Tr 1
  • Dc 4
  • Tr 3
  • Ch 2
  • Join with sl st into the center of the magic ring and pull the ring closed.

(16 Sts – including the ch-2)

Round 2:

  • Sc in the 2nd st of stacked tr. Mark the sc  you just created with a stitch marker or small piece of yarn.
  • Hdc 2 in the next st of the stacked treble (top of stacked treble)
  • Hdc 3 in the next st
  • Hdc 2 in next st
  • Hdc in each of the next 3 sts
  • Hdc 2 in next st
  • (Hdc, dc, hdc) in the tr
  • Hdc 2 in next st
  • Hdc in each of the next 3 sts
  • Hdc 2 in next st
  • Hdc 3 in next st.
  • Hdc 2 in the next st
  • Sc in ch-2 space.

(29 sts)

Round 3:

  • Sc in each of the next 2 sts (make sure the first stitch is made in the marked stitch from Round 2 – the tiny hidden stitch of the V – mark the 1st sc with a stitch marker.)
  • (Sc 2, sc 1 in next) x 3
  • Sc in each of the next 6 sts
  • (Sc 1, dc 1, sc 1) in the dc from Round 2.
  • Sc in each of the next 6 sts
  • (Sc 1, sc 2 in the next st) x 3
  • Sc in each of the 2 sts
  • Sl st in marked st from the beginning of the round..

Tie off.

(37 sts + 1 sl st)

Creating the Square

Round 4:

Count back six sc to the right from the center of the heart V (sl st does not count). Attach C2 in BLO of that stitch.

All stitches in Round 4 will be made in the back loop only (Back Loop Only – BLO).  I’ll break these down by each step because there are no repeats.

  • Ch 3
  • Dc in the same as ch-3
  • Dc in next
  • Hdc in next
  • Sc in next
  • Hdc in next
  • Dc in next
  • Dc in BLO of the st in the V (it’s tiny and hidden, and is the marked stitch)
  • Dc in next
  • Hdc in next
  • Sc in next
  • Hdc in next
  • Dc in next
  • (Dc 2, ch 1, dc 2) in next
  • Dc in next
  • Hdc in each of the next 2 sts
  • Dc in each of the next 3 sts
  • (Tr 2, ch 1, Tr) in next
  • Dc in each of the next 2 sts
  • Hdc in each of the next 2 sts
  • Sc in dc of Round 3
  • Hdc in each of the next 2 sts
  • Dc in next in next 2 sts
  • (Tr 1, ch 1, Tr 2) in next
  • Dc in each of the next 3 sts
  • Hdc in each of the next 2 sts
  • Dc in each of the next 2 sts
  • (Dc 2, ch 1) in the next in the same as starting chain.

Join with a sl st in the top of the chain from the beginning of the round, don’t cut or tie off.

(46 + 2 chains)

Round 5:

  • Ch 3
  • Dc 2 in the same ch-1 sp (you’re working back into the space)

  • (Ch 3, skip 1, sl st in next) x 7
  • Ch 3, skip 1, sl st in ch-2 sp
  • Ch 3, sl st in same ch space
  • (Ch 3, skip 1, sl st in next) x 7
  • Ch 3, skip 1, sl st in ch-2 sp
  • Ch 3
  • Sl st into the first stitch of the beginning ch-3.

  1. I purchased the lifetime bundle. I am not seeing the new pattern anywhere. I had to really search to find this. I am confused, do I get this free pattern download also or no? If so, I am not finding it in the list of bundled patterns nor do I find anywhere it allows me to download for free. Am I missing something??? lol Beautiful pattern btw.

    • Yes! This pattern is updated in the “products” section. You may need to search for the title. I have asked them to give us a search feature, but they still don’t have one. I’ll double check just to make sure!
