The Winter Whispers Beanie is a cozy companion to the Winter Whispers Scarf. The Winter Whispers Beanie is worked using a combination of simple stitches: single crochet, half double crochet, and double crochet. These stitches create a soft, textured fabric with a gentle drape, making it a comfortable and stylish option for cooler weather. This pattern is approachable for beginners and relaxing for more experienced crocheters.

BRIM:
I used a single crochet for the brim. But you can use any of your favorite brim ribbing patterns (6 styles of ribbing patterns)
Row 1 (With White): Ch 9, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across – 8 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in (both loops) in 1st st, sc (BLO) in next 6 sts, sc (both loops) in last stitch – 8 sc.
Note: On Row 3 below – if you adjust for your head circumference (mine measures 21” and allows for stretch) – keep your rows an even number, i.e., 84, 86, 88, etc.
Rows 3 – 84: Repeat Row 2.
Weave in tail.
Bring ends together and slip stitch them together. (don’t cut yarn)
CROWN:
Notes:
- Joins are done into the top of 2nd chain stitch, not the 1st stitch, mark it to help keep track.
- Take care when working this stitch, especially when using two strands of different colors. It’s easy to accidentally insert your hook into the same stitch you just used. To avoid this, gently stretch your work and feel for any stitches already worked into the one you’re about to use. If it already has a stitch in it, move to the next unworked stitch.
Flip your brim so you are working on the RS (seam is in the inside)
Switch to 5.5 mm hook. Attach DK Colors yarn, and chain 1.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, hdc 1 (or sc 1) in the top of each row for a total of 84 hdc (sc), join in ch 1. (84)
Rnd 2: Ch 2, *sk 1 st, dc 1 in next st. hdc 1 in skipped stitch working behind the dc* (use the tip of your hook to grab the skipped stitch – really helps) – repeat from * to * to the end of the round. Join in 2nd ch of ch 2. (84)
Rnd 3 – 13: Repeat round 2 until it measures approx. 8” from bottom of brim to top, leaving a long tail for cinching the top. (adjust height to meet your needs) 4 rows per color. I cut the yarn and added new colors.
CLOSING THE CROWN:
Close the beanie by either;
- Create a running stitch by weaving your needle through the top stitches and cinching it.
- -OR- use this method (in on the next page):
With seam facing you and WS out, position the beanie like this, top side up. Sew together both pieces as pictured below, working through top loops of the stitches (diagram on next page)
Congrats! You are finished!
