  1. It’s extremely frustrating that a lot of people think that you should get a free PDF download for the pattern no matter which designer is most graciously offering a free pattern on their blog! It DOES NOT SAY that you get the PDF for free for all patterns. The designers offer the patterns for free on their sites all you have to do is click the link and you Will get the pattern for free from all designers! SCROLL down and you will see the pattern written right there! You may ruin it for everyone that is so happy to get them at all!

    • Tell me you don’t understand the issue for the October 30th pattern without telling me. First of all, it’s true that not all blog hops have free pdfs. But most actually do. And they say otherwise if they are only free on blog *because* free pdfs are the norm. But that’s not the actual problem. It’s not the reason so many people are upset. So you are complaining about the complaining without any understanding of *why& they are justifiably frustrated. Since you don’t get it, I’ll explain: it’s because it isn’t even FREE for anyone that is more than an XS. And that isn’t right. If it is an XS only blog hop, just say so. Otherwise, it’s tacky and, yes, deceptive to purport to be following the rules of the game when you are really only offering one size which was available on your website for free already. So that’s the designer failing to “pay to play,” effectively. The goal of a hop, for the designer, is exposure and driving traffic to their site. But the “lure” is a free pattern (usually in the form of pdfs. I would suggest that on blog only hops are less popular and, thus, create less traffic for the designer.)But to dangle a carrot and especially to use the same “get pattern here” icon which was used throughout this hop as the gateway to getting the free pattern (whether on ravelry or a a download directly) only to have it lead to ravelry where the pattern isn’t free and isn’t even half off but is just on sale is insulting and disingenuous and should *not* have been allowed, period. People are also upset because that very clear “bait and switch” wasn’t acknowledged and addressed by the hop host. Instead, the intro info was changed at the 11th hour to include the designer who didn’t play by the rules. Fairly ironic considering that the single xs size offered is anything but inclusive.

      • Hey there Kristi! Each designer offers their own offer in blog hops. There really is no “norm” for the hops, just whatever the designer hosting it decides on. I’m not sure which pattern you’re referring to, but I think it’s Karmen’s sweater? Offering free PDFs is something that feels to me like people feel they are entitled to, and that is definitely not the case. The blog hops I host often vary from; all free on the blog only, free pdf download, free on the blog with free PDF, or a discount coupon for the PDF, and some designers even offer a free Ravelry download. Every designer does things their own way. I personally usually over free on the blog AND direct downloads for PDFs. I don’t have control over or dictate how other designers offer their patterns in the blog hops. I didn’t get any emails about people being upset, so perhaps it’s just you?

  2. Like several others, I have been very disappointed in this blog hop. The title is deceptive, dishonest even. A simple fix would have been to change the title from: “31 Free Fall Crochet Patterns You Will LOVE!” to something like:”31 Free or Discounted Fall Crochet Patterns You Will LOVE!” There were some nice patterns, but many were not free. Tasha, do better next time.Bea

    • I completely agree. So irritating that it says free but them they aren’t. I hate it when there is deceptive practices used. T

      • There’s really nothing deceptive about this hop. Nowhere does it say you’re getting the free PDF. It simply states you’re hopping from one designers website to another where the patterns can be viewed for free. I do think it’s wrong for the host to be ignoring all the comments.

        Reply
        • It is incredibly deceptive to say the patterns are free, but they aren’t. If someone has to pay more because they are bigger or smaller than the “free” version, that’s just wrong on so many levels. If they don’t want to make it free for everyone, then they shouldn’t join the FREE pattern hop.

          Reply
          • The patterns are free on the blogs, it’s just the PDF’s that aren’t. However I do agree patterns should be size inclusive. And again, the host should be replying to comments to help clarify things.

            Reply
          • ALL the patterns are FREE on the blogs. Some designers offer free PDFs as a bonus. What’s “wrong” is everyone thinking designers work for free. Some of them only sell PDFs and offer no free patterns on their blogs (and some don’t have blogs at all).

            Reply
        • It actually is a little deceptive, because as you say, the host should be replying to the many comments and questions about the one designer who has refused to play along, and has offered just one free size on their blog, and then when you click on the Autumn Harvest Blog Hop button, it does not take you to a free PDF of the pattern, but the opportunity to pay for the PDF for all sizes on Ravelry – which is distinctly different from the original blog instructions, and clearly different from what all the other designers have been interpreting this hop to entail. But instead of replying to comments or clarifying for the hop conditions for the designer who keeps doing that and asking them to play along, I noticed today that the hop post itself – the explanation and directions have been changed to no longer state that patterns will be free, and all the directions about the custom Autumn Harvest Hop “Get the pattern here” have been removed. So now it just feels like not only is that one designer who keeps reneging on free patterns when it is her turn is being deceptive, but the hop host – who has generously provided lovely patterns herself throughout this hop – is gaslighting participants by changing the rules in the final days, rather than acknowledging the problems. And that is very deceptive. Before, the “Loops Only” designer left a sour taste for their refusal to play along and their exclusionary way of doing so, but seeing the host changed the rules in the last days of the Hop to accommodate the ways Loops Only “broke” the rules, rather than acknowledging and replying to confused participants, is kind of souring me on this whole experience. Which is too bad, because as I said, it had been a great way to get to know some new designers.

          • It’s absolutely deceptive. And I added a bunch of that designer’s patterns to my cart, in anticipation of getting the free pattern sorted out. And regardless of how cute they are, on principle, I’m not buying them because this is tacky and deceptive and leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

            Reply
          • I’ve been so busy, I’m just now seeing these comments! Wow, had no idea people were upset. I didn’t “change the rules” at all throughout this hop. It’s the same as all the hops I’ve done in the past. “Get the Pattern Here” just means go to the pattern to get it – most are free on their blogs. I wrote this above, but I’ll say it here too for clarification – There really is no “norm” for the hops, just whatever the designer hosting it decides on. We do this for fun and to share patterns, like you mention. I’m really sorry that Karmen’s delivery was upsetting to you or anyone else. She decides what she does with her patterns and business.

        • Thank you Roni! People don’t read. I’m didn’t intentionally ignore the comments, I am just super busy and don’t get notified of these comments. I focus mostly on social and people that email me to figure out where the problems are. I appreciate you!

      • I agree with stating how the pattern can/will be obtained aka code, direct download or on the blog. It would be less confusing and frustrating for the people following the hop.

        Reply
      • Please do not insult me by calling me deceptive! They are ALL free on the designers blogs. Offering a FREE PDF version is a courtesy *some* designers do. It’s very entitled to think that way.

        Reply
    • No Bea, I am NOT a dishonest OR deceptive person. FREE is free. These patterns ARE free on the designers blogs! It’s so tiring and insulting to be called deceptive when I work SO hard to put together events for everyone and offer free patterns to people who insult or demand free PDFs. I personally offer mine for free all the time, because I am the opposite of deceptive and dishonest. If you don’t like what other designers are doing on THEIR blogs with THEIR patterns, then take it up with them. But how dare you come to my blog and tarnish my name. Shame on you. No one owes you or anyone else anything, and perhaps try being grateful for what these artists are offering you instead of complaining about it. So entitled. I’m sick of it.

      Reply
    • That is how Karmen does things. A lot of designers offer only one size free on their blogs and offer other sizes in the PDFs.

  3. Ok, this blog hop is getting to be too much. You say free, but most are not. If there’s just 1 free size, just say so in the box that would have the code. If it’s a %discount, just say so in the box where the code would be. It’s really deceiving when it says free, but it’s just one size or a % discount and not a free pattern on the blog. I’m all for free on the blog. I don’t expect a free pdf every time. But I do expect honesty. This last patten, the 30th, is very deceptive. Especially with zero details on the blog hop page.

    • No one is being dishonest! Karmen offers the free pattern for one size on her blog. Please email her if you have an issue with her not giving all sizes for free on *her* blog. Thanks!

  4. The alpine stitch sweater for today, the 30th, says that no code is needed but I don’t see any place to download it on the pattern page. And the blog hop “get the pattern” icon takes me to ravelry where it isn’t free. I’m confused. Help. Thanks.

  5. I am finding more and more of these patterns to be ‘unworthy’ of a blog hop – complete junk! This is MY opinion – but 99% of them are crap I would never make!

    • You don’t need to be rude! You are getting most for free, and if you don’t like them, skip them. Designers send them to the person setting it up, and It’s not her fault.

      Reply
    • 😠 that was highly unnecessary, completely biased and offered zero meaningful insight. Some patterns may not interest me but will have interest for someone else. And vice versa. If you don’t like something, it’s very easy to skip it without advertising your unsolicited commentary. It’s free. If you paid money for a pattern that didn’t work up correctly or was written horribly, you’d have reason to be upset. But getting something for free doesn’t buy you a ticket to be derogatory.

      Reply
    • Wow how disrespectful, the designer work hard on their designs, most of them do it for a living.if you don’t like/want them you don’t have to download them. I bet you could not design anything, as good as any of the patterns you had for free

  6. I get the same message that something has gone wrong every day that I try for a pattern. I’ve tried all the suggestions but nothing has worked. I was only able to get maybe 2 or so of the patterns I was trying for on this hop. This is the only Blog Hop that it happens with. I have no idea why it does this. Thank you for the patterns.

    • It’s not just this one. Since designers started adding advertisements to their sites, their sites crash a lot and are just awful. It’s like they forget most people don’t use a desktop computer anymore, we use phones or tablets to access their sites and unfortunately, their sites are not compatible with mobile devices.

  7. Your pattern on your website returns a “something went wrong” error, the same error nearly all the others on your site has given for some reason. If there a work around?

  8. I’m so confused with this hop. So no free pattern again today just 30% off right? It says no code but the button just gives 30% off

  9. Hi,The pattern for 18th ALSO has no direct download or code posted? Is there suppose to be a code posted? Th8s blog hop has been really confusing….

    • There is no code posted unfortunately. It’s just free on her website only for the XL size for this blog hop, so no free PDF for this day. I read it from her comment here:> Karmen from Loops Only on October 18, 2024 at 10:09 pm Hi! The XL size pattern is available for free on the blog, and you can also purchase a PDF version for all sizes (including XL) in my Etsy or Ravelry store.

    • According to the designer, her blog hop contribution is that her XL pattern is free on the blog (so no free PDF). It has been quite confusing the past couple of days. • Wait were you able to download the XL size for free? Not sure if I read your comment correctly, but I did notice that it said the XL was free for this blog hop, but then it had the “Get Pattern Here” button or whatever it’s supposed to say right above the instructions, but it only led to the ravelry page with no code. That’s what makes me think there is supposed to be a code for a free pdf or why would the designer put that button on her blog…?

    • Yeah I thought the whole blog hop would be free as it states in the title. On the designer’s ravelry as it states on her blog though it is going for $1.50 with no code and the note says “for the blog hop”.
