Corona Beach Coverall | Free Crochet Pattern | Sizes S, M, L, XL, XXL

I’m so excited it’s finally finished! I started this a while ago, after I featured the Solomon’s Knot in the Stitch Explorers series. I loved the stitch so much I wanted to create a beach coverall, slash, cardigan, slash bohemian cardigan all in one! I know, I know, a little much lol.

The Corona Beach Coverall is a great mix of all three, with an open-mesh, it’s cool, airy, light, and provides great coverage. I’ve been wearing mine around the house, and definitely, plan on taking it to the beach with me to visit mom on Labor day. 🙂 Excited!

We don’t have a beach nearby, so I scouted out the next best thing – a beach mural! I’ve been toying with the idea of posing in front of the local murals because Memphis has such beautiful wall art all over the city. I drove by this one last week and was so excited because they even had beach chairs outside! This mural is located at Eclectic Eye in Midtown. It is so perfect for a beach scene without the beach <3.

I’m a size 16 – this is XL size – Bust 40″, Waist 35″, Hips 45″

A little bit about the yarn…

I used Lion Brand’s 24/7 cotton in the colorway Ecru. This yarn really stands up to abuse, so it’s perfect for getting wet and dries fast too. I also used 24/7 cotton to make my Honeycomb Mesh Tee and have washed and dried it over and over again for a year and it still looks great.

A little note about how this pattern is written…

Although I’ve detailed stitch counts for sizes S, M, L, XL, & XXL – this pattern is so easy to customize. All the details are in the pattern below under the title “adjusting the pattern.”

For help learning the stitch, please refer to the video here, and at the bottom of the post is a video on how to create the border, the belt, and the tassels.

Despite looking somewhat complicated, this works up pretty fast, so you can have it finished in a week, depending on your crochet speed!

Are we following each other on Instagram yet? If not, give me a follow and I’ll follow you back ;). I’m not one of those people who do that follow-un-follow thing, so you’ll have a friend for life…

Okay guys! I don’t live by the beach, but I’ll be darned if I let that spoil my fun! A girl can dream :).

Adjusting the Size:

To customize the sizing for this pattern is very easy.

Front & Back Panel Adjustments:  Create a foundation chain to match the width you’d like, working in multiples of 4 fsc + 1 fsc. The same for the back panel – repeat rows 2 & 3 until you reach the height you’d like.

Assembly and border remain the same for all sizes.

  • Pattern is worked in multiples of 4 + 1 in fsc.
  • Pattern is worked in rows.
  • Loosely crochet the border, when it is finished, gently even out the stitches (see video for help with this).
  • Keep the length of your sol stitches consistent.  This will take some practice, and I recommend practicing the stitch first by making a swatch.

Pattern:

Sizes are written as follows (S, M, L, XL, XXL)

Using 4.5 mm hook, and 24/7 Cotton in Ecru, fsc any multiple of 4 + 1 fsc OR follow sizing below.

Front Panels (Make 2):  fsc (33, 37, 41, 45, 49)

Back Panel (Make 1):  fsc (101, 105, 109, 113, 117)

Row 1:

Ch 1, turnsc 1 in 1st fsc. *sol 2, sk 3 fsc, sc 1 in next fsc* – repeat from * to * to end of row – (16, 18, 20, 22, 24) sol’s, (9, 10, 11, 12, 13) sc.

Row 2:

Ch 5, turn. sol 1 (created at the top of the ch 5), sk (1 sc, 1 sol), sc 1 in next sc (located at peak), *sol 2, sk (1 sol, 1 sc, 1 sol), sc 1 in next sc,* rep *…* until you have 1 sol and 1 sc left, then sol 1, dtr 1 in last sc – (16, 18, 20, 22, 24) sol’s, (8, 9, 10, 11, 12) sc, (1) dtr.

Row 3:

Ch 1, turn, sc 1 in next sc. *sol 2, sk (1 sol, 1 sc, 1 sol), sc 1 in next sc, * rep *…* (work last sc into the 5th ch of ch 5) – (16, 18, 20, 22, 24) sol’s, (9, 10, 11, 12, 13) sc.

Rows 4 – X:

Repeat rows 2 & 3 until you reach 27.5”, 29”, 31”, 34”, 36”.

Cut, tie off, and weave in all tails.

+ Assembly:

Place front panels on top of back panel and use a running stitch to sew along dashed lines as is diagram below. The running stitch video is working left to right, but I tend to work right to left – either way is fine. I’m using a running stitch because using a whip stitch makes it too tight; you want it to stretch because it’s mesh.

Border for Body (optional, but recommended):

Video tutorial at the bottom of this post will walk through the border and tassels with you :).

With garment lying like diagram above, RS out, use a 5 mm hook, attach yarn in front panel st denoted by the red dot in the diagram (working through the side of the fsc).

hdc loosely around entire border (see video for tips on how to avoid bunching).

In each corner around border:  hdc 1, ch 1, hdc 1.

In the V’s of the side slits:  Skip over the stitches closest to the V, so it draws it together to create more of a V, as opposed to rounded.

When you reach the beginning hdc of the border, hdc 1, ch 1, hdc 1 in the corner, then join with an invisible join.  (please refer to video at bottom of post for help on the border).

Of course, you can create any type of border you’d like!  Cut, tie off, weave in all tails.

Border Sleeves:

Using 5 mm hook, attach yarn in bottom V of corner of sleeve on back panel, then work hdc border around, join with sl st into first hdc, cut, tie off, weave in all tails.

Belt:

fsc anywhere from 100-200 depending on your size or how long you would like the belt.  I worked approximately 100.

Tassels (make 2):

See video tutorial below for a walk through on how to make the tassels.

Belt Loops:

Create loops to hold the belt, by chaining 11-15, join chain, then tie to seam just below sleeves (around the waistline), weave in tails.

Congratulations!  You’re finished!
