How to Crochet a Row by Row Graphghan

Crocheting a graphghan using a single crochet or a double crochet is very super easy! You follow the pattern, finishing out the last step of your stitch with your new color. I will be doing tutorials in the Facebook group to help you learn these fun techniques on Saturday, September 24th.

Double crochet graphghans are worked slightly different. I updated the description below to help you work the pattern for double crochet.

Abbreviations:

Pmkn – Pumpkin, Br – Brown, Wh – White, Gr – Green, Gld – Gold, Sqs – squares

Row by Row Fall Crochet Blanket – Patterns

Because the Row by Row Versions will take less time than the C2C versions, I have separated out the rows and will release them on a slightly different schedule, as follows:

Single Crochet Schedule:

Day 1 – Rows 1 – 15:
Day 4 – Rows 16 – 30:
Day 7 – Rows 31 – 45:
Day 10 – Rows 46 – 60:
Day 13 – Rows 61 – 75:

Double Crochet Schedule:

Day 1: – Rows 1 – 12
Day 4 – Rows 13 – 25
Day 7 – Rows 26 – 37
Day 10 – Rows 38 – 49
Day 13 – Rows 50 – 61
Day 16 – Rows 62 – 75

Each of these release of rows will give you approximately an hour or so of work.

Single Crochet Row by Row Pattern:

Creating a single crochet graphghan is as follows:

  1. One single crochet = 1 st
  2. Create a chain of 75 + 1. Single Crochet in the 2nd chain from your hook and across.
  3. Chain 1 at the end of each row and turn.

Changing Colors:

The best way to change colors in single crochet graphghans is to finish the last 1/2 of your stitch with your knew color. i.e. if I crochet 25 stitches and the next 11 are in white. I will crochet 24, the next stitch (my 25th stitch) I will insert my hook, yarn over, and pull up a loop. Then I will add my new color to my hook and complete the single crochet with my new color. I will carry my yarn or use bobbins.

Double Crochet Row by Row Pattern:

The double crochet schedule is slightly different as well. Here is what to do for a dc graphghan. You need to do a little math as you work, but it’s not hard.

  1. 2 double crochet = 1 square (aka, 1 stitch)
  2. Create a chain of 150 + 2, Row 1 (below) will be your first Row of Dc’s
  3. OR – Create a foundation double crochet row of 150 – chain 2 at then end of each row and turn your work (the chain will not count as a stitch in your stitch count, make your first stitch in the base of the turning chain.
  4. OR – Create a foundation double crochet row of 150. Use a standing double crochet in place of the chain 2 (this will count as a dc).

    • Catlady, I was just on her Facebook group and she’s trying to finish up her C2C Blanket right now. Then she has to write up the pattern. But she did say that she did do a video on Youtube for the border for anyone who wants to go and check it out or do the border from the video. I hope this helps you dear.

  6. Hi! Was just looking at the row by row in dc. Chain 150.But stitch count for each row is 75. Sc was chain 75 with a stitch count of 75. Is the dc stitch count an oops? ❤️Thanks. I’m late to the party, but am so looking forward to this! 🎃

    • Hi Debbie, I’m pretty sure that was an oops in the pattern. But if you want to get a response faster to your question dear I would try messaging her on Facebook.   7. Good morning! Can you please send me the link to purchase both the row by row and the C2C patterns? Just found out my husband has cancer and I want to work on these while waiting in the chemo area and wherever else I have sitting time. I think I will do the row by row first. I was going to do the C2C first but changed my mind. Thank you, Melody
