What is Tapestry Crochet? 

Tapestry crochet is worked row by row (RBR) turning after each row. Colors are either carried inside or you can use the Intarsia technique that uses bobbins to carry up the yarn. You can also choose to cut the yarn after each color change, which creates a lot of tails to weave in, but a cleaner look. You can also float the yarn and add a backing to cover them (my favorite choice!) 

What is C2C?

C2C means corner-to-corner crochet.

  • You crochet tiny squares working diagonally, using double or half double crochets or double crochet stitches.
  • Some designers use bobbles to work C2C patterns.
  • C2C can be created many different stitches, including single crochet (called micro C2C).
  • If you are new to corner-to-corner crochet and want to learn. I have the perfect tutorial for you.

  • C2C works in diagonal rows, from one corner to the opposite corner in little squares.

The greatest thing about graphghan patterns is you can use any crochet stitch you’d like!

The most common stitch used for a graphghan is a single crochet. However, switch it up for a larger project and use double crochet.

Graphs can also be worked diagonally, so you can use the corner-to-corner crochet method to create this blanket too.

dc – Double Crochet

Yo, insert hook in indicated stitch, yo and draw up a loop, *yo, draw through two loops (*two times).

sc – Single Crochet

Insert hook in indicated stitch, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through both loops.

There are so many ways to adjust the size, it’s all up to you!

Working the blanket in C2C will make a larger blanket. 

There are different ways to create a C2C blanket.

You can use a variety of stitches including:

  • Micro C2C stitch (uses single crochet)
  • Mini C2C (uses half double crochet)
  • Traditional C2C (uses double crochet). 

Regardless of which stitch you choose, the C2C blanket size calculator will work best to determine how big your blanket will be no matter what stitch you decide to use.

Working the blanket in single crochet will make a better wall hanging

However, you can use the Row by Row Blanket Size Calculator to help you determine how big your project will be using a single crochet.

Once you determine the stitch, yarn, and hook  you want to use, start crocheting.

Making the right yarn choices…

C2C can be created using a double crochet, half double, or even a single crochet.  You can also use this chart as a reference to create a single crochet or double crochet graphghan.

Materials & Notions

Suggested Yarn:  Hobby Lobby’s I Love this Cotton or equivalent 100% Cotton, 180 yds (164 m), 3.5 oz (100 g) in the following colors: 

(color number – color name)

  • Curry (yellow) or Buttercup (light yellow)
  • Pink
  • White
  • Amethyst (or brown / black) for the eyes, nose, whiskers and writing.

Yardage Needed:  This will completely depend on what yarn and hook size you use. But here is an estimate for each color using Hobby Lobby “I Love This Cotton” yarn. The total yardage for your blanket is approximately 1253 yards, and this yarn is currently around $3.99 a skein..

Gauge:

C2C: Worked in basic 5/2 C2C & I Love This Cotton / 4 mm hook & 4-weight yarn my swatch measures 6 squares by 6 squares = 4” x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm)

Row by Row: Worked in basic single crochet back and forth & I Love This Cotton, 4 mm hook / 4-weight yarn my swatch is 18 sts x 17 rows = 4” x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm)

Sizes / Finished Measurements:

Estimated Dimensions: Of course, you can use different yarn & hook sizes to create a smaller C2C blanket by going down to a 2 weight cotton, like Premier Cotton and use a 3 or 3.5 mm hook. I separated these out by swatch sizes for C2C and figured dimensions for how many squares in a 4” x 4” C2C swatch to achieve a certain size based on my swatch using I Love This Cotton & 4mm hook.

C2C (use a smaller hook and yarn to get more squares like the 8 x 8 and 10 x 10):

If you can use a different yarn & hook to achieve more squares per 4” (10 cm) swatch, the following is what dimensions (est) will be.

6sq x 6sq = 4” x 4” (10 x 10 cm) using 4mm hook & 5/2 method): 84.67″ (215 cm) wide by 80.67″ (205 cm) tall or 7.1′ (215 cm) wide x 6.7′ (205 cm)
