Resizing Your Woodland Crochet Bear Blanket Pattern Pattern
Dreaming of a Full-Sized Blanket?
Fear not – this blanket is customizable to your desired dimensions with just a few simple tweaks! 😉
Choose Your Own Adventure with sizing!
This graph can be used to create just about anything! Here is a breakdown on how to use the graph to create different crochet projects using just ONE graph.
Make a sweater or tank
This may seem a little crazy, but you can do it! Bottom up sweater or tank works best by starting with a few rounds of single crochet joined together.
- Of course you’ll need to measure your hips to get your starting chain count.
- Then work single crochets or another stitch to get to the height you’d like your tank or top, and start working the graph.
- Center it (using a little math).
- Then work some straps or create sleeves! Be creative.
Create a wall-hanging
You can create a wall-hanging by working the graph in single crochet (1 sc = 1 block) or double crochet (2 dc = 1 block) in back and forth rows using tapestry crochet technique.
Baby Blanket Tips
The yarn recommendations in this post are meant for a baby / crib blanket. 3 DK weight yarn is PERFECT for a baby blanket using this graph.
Full-size blanket tips
Easy! Increase the yarn weight to a worsted weight and increase your hook size to a 6 mm or larger. You can even use a bulky or super bulkly yarn to make it as big as you want. A plushie yarn would be amazing too!
Make a Snuggly Pillow
Creating a pillow using this pattern would work great two ways – you can work two panels (a front and back panel then sew them together).
Another way is work it in the round using the waistcoat stitch to create a knit look and just float your yarn behind (see the waistcoat stitch tutorial here).

Adorable Winter Woodland Crochet Bear Blanket Pattern Baby Blanket – Details
The recommended yarns and hook for the following is to create a C2C BABY BLANKET / CRIB BLANKET.
The sample photo is a mockup of a C2C pattern. As mentioned below and throughout, with this pattern, you can create a baby blanket, crib blanket (using 3 weight yarn) – or – you can create a wall hanging, pillow, or even a sweater using the row by row written patterns in single crochet, tunisian simple stitch, or double crochet (2 dc = 1 square / stitch).
Skill Level: Easy to Intermediate
Yarn Weight: 3-weight (light worsted) or whatever yarn you choose!
You can use ANY weight yarn with graphgan C2C patterns. I chose to use a 3-weight yarn because I wanted to make it small for a new baby.
But this graph & pattern can be created using 4-weight and a larger hook too, or even a 5 weight yarn & 6.5 mm hook to make it extra large and cozy.
All About the Yarn…
I went with Simply DK Paintbox Yarns by Love Crafts yarn for my Winter Winter Woodland Crochet Bear Pattern C2C Crochet pattern because it’s a 3 weight yarn and the colors are fabulous. super soft and comfy, perfect for a baby blanket and it’s lightweight and safe and free from chemicals.
Yarn Substitutions:
As I mentioned above, you can use any yarn you’d like. But, if you are looking for a similar 3-weight yarn to Love Crafts Simply DK – here are a few options to choose from.
(some of these are affiliate links, which means I’ll earn a small commission at no cost to you)
Yarns Similar to Simply DK | Simply Chunky |
Lion Brand Truboo (3-weight) | Paintbox Simply Chunky |

Lion Brand Coboo (3- weight) |
Materials & Notions
Suggested Yarn: Simply DK Paintbox Yarns by Love Crafts or equivalent 100% Cotton, 302 yds (276 m), 3.5 oz (100 g) in the following colors:
(color number – color name)
- Red: Paintbox Simply DK 113 – Rose Red
- Lt Brown: Paintbox Simply DK 109 – Soft Fudge
- Black: Paintbox Simply DK 101 – Pure Black
- Grey: Paintbox Simply DK 61 – Elephant Grey

- Tan: Paintbox Simply DK 108 – Light Caramel
- Dk Brown: Paintbox Simply DK 110 – Coffee Bean

Yardage Needed:
This will completely depend on what yarn and hook size you use. But here is an estimate for each color using suggested yarn.
This also lists the number of squares in each color – use the C2C Yardage Calculator to figure out how much you’ll need.
Or use the Graphghan Yardage Calculator here (this link will update this week)!
Color | # of Squares/Stitches | Yardage |
Red | 408 | 210 |
Lt Brown | 1113 | 572 |
Black | 54 | 28 |
Grey | 1987 | 1022 |
White | 308 | 159 |
Tan | 405 | 209 |
Dk Brown | 267 | 138 |
Lt Grey | 40 | 21 |
- Hook Size: 5 mm (USA H) or any hook you’d like to create the size you want. C2C can be created using any hook and yarn. Use the C2C Blanket Size Calculator to find out how big yours will be using your favorite yarn!
- Scissors
- Darning Needle
- Flexible Measuring Tape
Gauge:
Worked in basic 5/2 C2C & 3-weight yarn my swatch measures 7 squares by 7 squares = 4” x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm)
Sizes / Finished Measurements:
These dimensions are for using the recommended hook, yarn size, and matching my tension. Any variation you make will give different results.
This is why I recommend using the C2C blanket size calculator to help you figure out how big your blanket will be.
Dimensions: 32.6″ (82 cm) wide by 44.5″ (114 cm) tall or 2.8′ (45 cm) wide x 3.7′ (112) tall.
Child/Lap Blanket: I recommend Brava Worsted & a 6 or 6.5 mm hook to get a good lap blanket that measures 5.2’ x 4’.
